Heskey fee agreed

Wigan are set to break their transfer record after a £5.5m bid for Birmingham striker Emile Heskey was accepted.
A statement on Blues' website confirmed the offer had been agreed for the 28-year-old former England player, who is now discussing personal terms.

Wigan manager Paul Jewell also inquired about signing Robbie Savage, 31, from Blackburn but was told the Wales midfielder was not for sale.

Jewell said the club were targeting "top Premiership performers".

Wigan are desperate to land a proven striker after selling Jason Roberts to Blackburn for £3m and missing out in the chase for Andrew Johnson, who joined Everton from Crystal Palace in May.

What's going on, 5.5 million for a player who can't hit a cows arse with a shovel. Birmingham have just done the best deal of the season bar non. Buying Heskey is like buying from one of those auctions at the seaside, where you get a 32" LCD tv for £5, get it home and there's no components inside just a shell. Heskey's like that,ex-Liverpool, ex- England but crap!

don't be surprised to see heskey rediscover the form he showed a couple of years ago under the best young manager in the prem, and 'ex england' at 28 isn't exactly over the hill.

28 Gee's, he seems to have been around for an eternity. I recall the first time i saw him playing for Leicester City, i knew he was going to be a top striker then, thou the last few years are not the statistics of a top goal scorer thats for sure.

Heskey

[I hpoe Wigan don't get their fingers burnt with this signing. We've seen Heskey at Blundell Park before and he spent most of the time on his backside. This is his last big move , rather alot of money for a player who didn't help the Blues stay in the top flight.
