Koumas gets player of the year award
West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jason Koumas has been named the Championship player of the year at the second Football League Awards in London.
The Welshman, who looked certain to leave the club in the summer in a controversial move to Cardiff, has been instrumental for the Baggies this term.
West Brom currently lie third in the Championship and Koumas said: "It's a surprise and a wonderful honour.
"It is even more pleasing that the West Brom fans value my worth in the team."
And he issued his thanks to the club's supporters for getting behind him after his move to the Bluebirds fell through.
"It could have gone the other way, but, since I returned to the club in the summer, the fans have really got behind me," he said.
Preston striker David Nugent finished runner-up for the award, while Southampton youngster Gareth Bale was third - though the 17-year-old left-back had the consolation of being named the league's best young player.
S****horpe forward Billy Sharp was named League One's best player, with Milton Keynes Dons forward Izale McLeod taking the prize for League Two.
