The Trophy Cabinet
Sheffield Wednesday got to Wembley (remember that place?) for the first time in my life-time in 1966, where was I ......... in New Zealand in the Merchant Navy, on a ship called Dorset.
I was 18 years old, we had an Everton fan on board, that was the team we played. I worked in the galley, helping the cook, he had a radio in his cabin and he let me have the morning off to listen to the match. We went 2-0 up but lost 3-2. I was gutted, the Everton fan went from tears to a huge smile. I was still proud, only two teams can get to the final and we were one of them, we beat Chelsea on our way there. We were a big team in those days, but we were beginning to go on one of our 'slides'. |
