I took out a subscription with them in the beginning of October £49.00 for a sky plus dish and £28 per month for 4 mixes and Sky Sports which i thought was great after being sold the package by a door to door sales dolly bird ! had to pay the £49.00 there and then which was processed immediately 16th October Instalation date ... Took day off work engineer came and advised he couldn't fit dish as it needed special heights team 27th October Revised instalation date advised morning fitting, engineer did not turn up phoned at 12.30 was told he had was off sick and that they would arrange an engineer that afternoon. Nobody had arrived by 16.30 phoned to see what was going on and was told that the engineers van had broken down 29th October 2nd Revised installation not to my surprise nobody had turned up by 15.00 phoned to see what was occuring and told that there had been a computer system breakdown and they would reschedule for 31st October By this time I threw my toys out of the pram and explained that I had already given up 2 days work and spent most of the day at home on a Saturday to have sky fitted and was not willing to give up anymore time for the installation. Told them that I wanted compensation and a gauranteed installation time e.g 0900 on a fixed date not just a morning or afternoon time slot. they said that this was not possible. I asked to speak to a more senior member of the customer service team but was told that this was not possible. Asked if they could get someone with more authority to call me back but was told it was not possible to make outgoing calls from the call centre. Then asked for an immediate refund of the £49.00 I had paid for my Sky plus box but was told that I would have to request that in writing and that because I had signed a contract it would be unlikely that I would recieve it back and that I would be liable to 12 months subscription charges should I cancel ! Explained rather politely that this was Out of order and was intrigued by the fact that they could take £49.00 out of my account instantly but not refund it instantly Asked for an email address to write and complain but was told that all complaints had to be put in writing ! Very polite letter sent to Sky 13 days ago as yet I have not received a reply ! How does that surprise me. Thankfully I had not cancelled by Virgin Media contract Perhaps you maybe lucky with Sky and good luck but from my bitter experience they have been very very poor ! People I know who have Sky Plus do say it is very good but I may just stick with Virgin Media and my trusted Hard Disc Recorder However should Sky be willing to offer me a reasonable level of compensation and eventually manage to install equipment at Cov Bee Towers then I maybe swayed. I doubt if I will hear from them however ! Rant over ! |

Hey Beefy, I think you'll find that they have violated any rights to claiming your subscription for a year as they have to complete the installation by the agreed date. I'm sure if you get in touch with Trading Standards they'll tell you the same. Both parties have a contractual obligation and SKy have failed to to keep their side of it so you are entitled to a full refund. Call them up and tell them you've reported them and see what happens.
