swansea 4-1 cheltenham
A great result for the Swans in front of a 14,000 crowd and a well deserved and highly professional win against struggling Cheltenham. Two first half goals from Andy Robinson gave the Swans a convincing half time lead after dominating with 64% possession. Cheltenham failed to get any shots on target and just one corner in a half when Swansea also had a good claim for a penalty.
With Leeds United claiming a point in the final min against Hartlepool, Southend drawing away at Gillingham, Brighton losing and Yeovil losing 1-0 the pressure was on the Swans to make safe all three points in the second half and open up some space at the top end.
Within 2 minutes of the second half kicking off Ferrie Bodde scored from a Leon Britton pass to make it 3-0 with a right-footed shot from 12 yards out. Then, after just seconds on the field after replacing the outstanding Guillem Bauza, Jason Scotland scored his 12th goal of the season on 78 minutes with a left footed shot into the top of the net from 10 yards out. The Swans, now 4-0 up, piled on the pressure against a battered Cheltenham Town. Man of the match Andy Robinson missed a great opportunity to get his hatrick by hitting over the bar, however during a period of floodlight problems Cheltenham's Gillespie pulled one back for the visitors with an over head kick on 82 minutes which was greeted with almost silence by the crowd due to its insignificance. The score and final result became 4-1 to Swansea.
With many other results going Swansea's way (we were the only team in the top 8 to win) it was indeed a very good boxing day for the Swans
