Monk re-signs
Garry Monk has signed the new one-year deal that Swansea City had offered their out-of-contract captain.
The central defender put pen to paper at the Liberty Stadium on Monday.
It sealed a deal for the 28-year-old that contains the option of a second year if Monk plays 25 competitive first-team games next season.
"I'm delighted it's all finalised, but with so many players out of contract it was always going to take time," Monk told the club website.
"It's been a long process but it was just a case of being patient.''
Monk attracted interest from other clubs but has always maintained he did not want to leave the Liberty Stadium.
"I've said all along that I only wanted to sign for Swansea, it's a great club. I love being here and all that goes with it," Monk added.
"While my agent had to do his job and see what else was out there just in case, it never crossed my mind to go anywhere else.
"I did think about Barcelona, but they signed Thierry Henry instead!''
Monk spent all of last season on the sidelines with a cruciate knee ligament injury.
But he has stepped up his rehabilitation work over the summer and will be fit to start pre-season training on Friday
