Jimmy Greenhoff
As much as any other player he epitomised the enterprising style of play preferred by boss Tony Waddington in the early 1970's. Began his career at Leeds and moved on to Birmingham before being signed by Waddington in August 1969 having already proved himself a more than useful marksman. Jimmy was a key member of the 1972 League Cup winning side and, in seven years, scored 101 goals in 338 first-team appearances.
In November 1976, he was sold to Manchester United for £120,000, scoring another 36 goals in 122 games under Tommy Docherty and picking up an FA Cup winners medal in 1977. Three years later he briefly joined Crewe, then went to Canada to play for Toronto Blizzard and rounded off his career with two seasons at Port Vale (1981-83) and a season as player-manager of Rochdale before returning to coach at Vale Park. Greenhoff's career statistics were 146 goals in 571 league games.
