Mulholland Leaves Stratford
MULHOLLAND LEAVES STRATFORD
07/05/2007
Dennis Mulholland has resigned as manager of Stratford Town after steering the Polymac Services Midland Alliance club to fourth place in the table.
Mulholland (pictured), who took over from Ian Britton fifteen months ago, announced his decision to the players following a last day 1-0 defeat at Alvechurch.
He said: "I didn't realise how difficult the job would be when I started but I think we've had a fantastic season, finishing fourth.
"It was disappointing not to be able to be promoted but we had a fantastic run in both the FA Cup and FA Vase which brought in extra revenue to the club.
"Stratford Town is a club going only one way - a new ground later this year and groundsharing at Solihull Borough - whoever comes in, I can see promotion next year."
Mulholland praised the efforts of his backroom staff, especially Ian Mitchell and Craig Woodley plus Steve Wood and Paul Grant.
"Ian's been tremendous and so has Craig, who is a great coach, but all the staff have been superb to work with."
He added: "Hopefully I will be staying with the club and helping with the youth development and attracting the best players from Birmingham and Warwickshire to the club."
Stratford were ruled out of possible promotion as their new ground would not be ready and as they hadn't applied back in November when they were in the lower half of the table.
