Martin Allen to Sheffield Wednesday?

In Feb 2006 Martin Allen received a lot of respect from the Wednesday fans.

Basically a couple of Wednesday fans died on the way back from a game and Martin Allen said something or other on the Brentford official site

I know for a time afterwards Wednesday and Brentford fans had a real love in.

Here's a typical post on the BAMB (Brentford Always Message Board) that was left by someone called "Bolton Owls"...

"Just thought I would register on this messageboard to wish Brentford good luck not only for tomorrow but for the rest of the season and I am sure all my fellow sheffield wednesday fans feel the same way.

The comments Martin made on your official website about our two fans tragically killed in a road accident on the M6 going back to Sheffield after the game at Coventry were both moving and to be honest totally unexpected

They have shown martin allen to be a class act. The next time we meet he is sure to get a great and very deserved ovation. He is a credit to your club and football in general

Best wishes for the rest of the season, you now have 24,000 people up north hoping the best for you

Hopefully we will see you next season in the championship - thats assuming we stay up of course!!!!"

Anyway it would not surprise me if a few Wednesday fans start mentioning his name in the corridors of power at Hillsborough to get Martin in as the new man .

You heard it here first :)

Nigel Worthington has abandoned his interest in becoming Sheffield Wednesday's new manager.

The former Owls defender had suggested he may be keen to replace Paul Sturrock at the helm after admitting he would be prepared to listen to any approach.

But Worthington, who was sacked by Norwich City earlier this month, has now opted to rule himself out of the running for the job.

"I have spoken to people, but the time is not right for me or Sheffield Wednesday," Worthington told The Daily Mail.

"I'm currently having a break and then I'll see what's available."

Ex-England coach Glenn Hoddle is also reported to have turned down the chance to discuss the vacant position.

Latest reports claim Bryan Robson, dismissed by West Brom last month, will be interviewed for the chance to succeed Sturrock at Hillsborough.

There must be something seriously wrong at Sheffield Wednesday if managers are reluctant to go there. For any manager keen to establish their reputation or perhaps (in the case of Hoddle and Worthington) restore their reputation, Wednesday would provide the perfect challenge.
