BREAKING NEWS: Don Valley move confirmed for Rotherham United

The Millers are to leave Millmoor after 101 years, in a move which sees League Two football being played in the neighbouring city of Sheffield.

Chairman Tony Stewart, who has been in extensive talks with landlords of Millmoor the Booth family, has been unsuccessful in his negotiations to agree a suitable package for the club to continue playing in it's home town.

The club are to relocate to the Don Valley athletics stadium, just over the boundary into Sheffield.

Move is a momentous step - Stewart

Speaking to the clubs official website, prospective new owner Tony Stewart explains the clubs move to Don Valley Stadium after talks with the Booths broke down.

After mounting speculation over the last couple of days, the news has been confirmed by Tony Stewart that the club will move over the Sheffield border this summer and play at Don Valley Stadium.

Speaking to the clubs official site, Tony admitted that the move is a blow, but is best for the club.

"This is a momentous step for us but I am determined that every deal that this club enters in to is workable and financially viable. I have no intention of seeing this club hit the financial rocks again and I am sure our supporters would expect nothing less, We have done all we could to allow this club to stay at Millmoor but I am not going to wallow in this, we are going to make sure that we make our time at Don Valley as exciting as it can be and trust that our supporters will back us through this period as they always have."

"We will work doubly hard with the Rotherham Borough Council, and other interested parties to ensure that the new Community Stadium becomes a reality as soon as possible. In the meantime we will now press ahead with plans for the coming season which have been held up by the discussions over Millmoor." he added

It could be good news perhaps the owners wanted more money or would not reduce the rent and for Rotherham to avoid another administration situation, all costs have to be reduced......If things work out maybe the club, local council and a few interested local business people can get together and build a new Stadium a new Millmoor........It worked at Coventry.......and many other teams...good luck

thats the thing, were looking to build a new stadium for us and the rugby, we have drawn up some plans and are looking to get started as soon as poss. but the problem is the roads, we need to build 2 new roads, which takes longer to do.

i guess it is better as it saves us money and does allow us to get more fans in if we get a big cup game.

so here is to the future and lets never speak of the booth family again

Good luck RUFC. I wish we could move somewhere else as Swindon Borough Council own the County Ground and ask for fairly stiff rent payments. Hopefully there'll be some movement on that front now we're stable again.

Main Stand

Look Above

it is i guess a better ground then millmoor, the only problem is it only has 1 stand with a roof on. but the facilities are much better, you can have drinks in the gound, good food, use the gym, get a message, anything you want.

lets just hope we get some big games in the cup now to fill it out, but the problem is we havent won a cup game for 5 years

here is some more pictures of the facilities that area at our new groudn. it all looks good.

Don't you think athletics stadium s should stick to athletics, the tands are too far away from the pitch to create any atmosphere. Good luck to the millers in their new home anyway, i hope it produces a lot of success
