After my trip to watch Macc v Bury 3 weeks ago, I was again persuaded by Ian and Paul (mad Bury fanatics) to go and watch the Shakers on their travels, this time at Rochdale.
With the 2 towns only 8 miles apart, the atmosphere was great for this local derby with more Bury fans in the ground than home fans, and they certainly made more noise!
Rochdale got off to a flier with a goal in the first 10 minutes.
I was level with play, the forward was 2 yards offside and wasnt given!
The Linesman got the biggest cheer of the day just before half time when he eventually gave an offside. No joking, he had failed to give at least 10 offsides in the first half!
I'm not biased and couldnt believe the standard.
Bury got back on level terms soon after the Rochdale goal, and deservedly took the lead with a penalty just before half time.
In the second half Rochdale made 2 substitutions up front, and the game changed completely. These 2 guys ran and attacked the Bury defence and the Shakers looked decidedly shaky as they struggled to clear their lines. Casper Schmeichel made a series of brilliant saves to keep them out.
However in the last minute of injury time Bury broke away and with 5 against 2 it looked a sure goal.
However the forward lost control and the goalie pounced on the ball.
The referee didnt see it that way though and gave a penalty and sent the centre half off!
Bury scored and the match ended 3-1 to Bury.
Another grand day out and 5 wins in a row for Bury, they are now 10th and dare I say looking at the play offs?
Got to keep my feet on the ground!!!!!
