Noticed that theres always like 80+ guests and only a few registered users on the forums. Would it not make sense to force guests to register before being able to view the forums? that way you get more registered users

The guests that you see jay are mainly search engine robots taking information from the site. If you click on USER CP, then click on WHO'S ONLINE it'll give a more balanced view of who's around.
