Ramón Calderón introduced the new coach and ended with a few words of praise in German before handing over to Schuster.
"Today we are starting along a new path," the president explained.
"We are not only intent on ensuring that Real Madrid continue to win trophies, but also that everyone is proud of the way we play.
"We have complete confidence in Schuster to produce a team that will play excellently.
"In order for all this to happen, we have had the fortune of hiring a person who possesses all those values that I mentioned earlier.
"Following the success of last season, which ended with a league title after three years of having won nothing, this is the first time we have asked the press to be here during this new campaign and it marks the start of the new presentations that will follow over the next few days.
"This is also a good time to demonstrate that my board of directors and I are aware that Real Madrid is more than a title-winning team. It has to be an example in every sense of the word.
"We want a group of professionals that combine courage, passion, good football and, of course, good results and titles. A group of people who form a team through the values that have always represented the identity of the club.
"Schuster was a great player - as he proved here -, he's a great coach, and an excellent person. It's very easy to present and to receive he who was one of the most brilliant players who played for this Club.
"Not only was he a player that left his mark on all the teams he has been with. He has also had a great career as a coach.
"Cologne, Xerez, Shakhtar, Levante, and then Getafe in 2005, who he finished this most recent season with as runners-up of the King's Cup, the best results ever by that club."
Schuster then revealed that he his aim has always been to be able to take over at one of the games' giants and now he has been given that chance.
"It is a very happy day for me. I want to thank everyone for being given this opportunity to come to such a grand club as Real Madrid," Schuster said.
"I know what the club represents and I know what has to be done.
"From the first day that I became a coach I have dreamt of coaching a great club like this.
"Things have worked out very well."
After posing with the new Real Madrid shirt, with the number one and his name emblazoned on the back, a press conference was held.
