Ugo to sign for Rangers

Middlesbrough defender Ugo Ehiogu has agreed a deal to join Rangers and passed a medical with the Ibrox club.
The 34-year-old has some issues to resolve with Boro before his registration is completed.

But former England centre-back Ehiogu will train with his new team-mates on Tuesday and should be available for Saturday's clash with Hearts.

The Glasgow club's manager, Walter Smith, told Rangers World: "He will give us a bit of steel and experience."

Rangers expect the move to be ratified in the next couple of days.

Ugo Ehiogu admits he could have joined Rangers a week ago, but now aims to make his debut against Hearts on Saturday.

The veteran defender has signed an 18-month contract at Ibrox after finalising his release from Middlesbrough.

He is keen to make an immediate impression with the Old Firm giants and revealed he was close to moving over a week ago.

"I'm really pleased to be here. although I'm still taking in my surroundings given the size of the place," Ehiogu told the club's official website.

"I heard of Rangers' interest just over a week ago. If things had been sorted out sooner there was even talk of me playing against Dunfermline last Sunday.

"But with technical stuff and a few loose ends that needed to be tied up it just wasn't possible.

"Hopefully now that things are sorted out I can play some part on Saturday.

"I just want to thank everyone at Middlesbrough for their professionalism in their handling of me over the last six years - it's been fantastic.

"But I've moved on now and I want to start a new career at Rangers and achieve something here."
