Premier League to stage games abroad ?

The Premier League may start to play some games abroad starting in the 2010/11 season. Richard Scudamore has said that there will be a 39th fixture involving 4 teams in January. 6 Cities are vying to stage the games - Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Melbourne, Miami & one other. A final decision is not expected until 2010. With the popularity of the PL around the world it is thought that the games will attract big crowds.

The premier league is only interested in revenue - Its the fans that will suffer as always.

with more and more teams bought from people who are not interrested in soccer, just profit on their mind, its just logical that such things happening
they want to earn money by making the team more popular abroad, but the domestic and real fan is the one suffering

It'll be interesting to see how this is going to work, how will leagues in other countries feel about a foreign brand competing for crowds in their own back yard. Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal all have large followings in Asia etc, but will people want to see the likes of Bolton against Wigan with respect to both those clubs. How would the top 4 clubs feel if Real Madrid decided to play Barcelona at Wembley one saturday during the Premiership season?

Next thing to happen will be all Premier Teams will get a bye into the 4th Round of the cup to compensate for fixture congestion and player fatigue as a result of this absolute tosh

i agree but money talks .the players will want more and the premiership will move further away from the championship so the bigger clubs like leeds wolves and so on will end up doing a derby not haveing a chance

Have to agree....... Fans will be getting the raw deal here and the fat cats of football will be quids in yet again (as if they don't have enough already)

Bloody greed is spoiling the game in my opinion. We need passion from players not greed then maybe, just maybe other nations might just fear to play English teams again!

So lets see how this pans out shall we.....

10 games a year played abroad

American TV companies start to buy Tv rights to the Premiership

Both teams get one 2 minute time out per half which they must take so US TV companies can get their adverts in.

Substitutes incresed to eleven

Due to the risk of Head Injuries to American School children all players must wear helmets

Time outs increased to 2 per team per half

Substitutes increased to 22 allowing for Offencive, defencive and tactical team plays

Game divided into four quarter periods of 15 minutes

To keep Americans interested due to their short attention span scores awarded for corners

Removal of the off-side rule because Americans can't understand it.

Players can Kick or pick up and run with the ball.

Pitch divided up into 10 metre sections to measure the forward movement of a team. incase anyone with a short attention span had manged to forget where the present play started from

Due to the risk of collision injuries to American school children all players must wear full body armour under there shirts.

Abolish the goals as not enough goals are scored to maintain the interest of those with a short attention spans, instead award six points for crossing the now 50 metre wide goal line

To retain the name football have one player Kick a GOAL after the six point score.

All players must have names like Dwayne Wrykopaski and be able to run ten metres without stopping....

have we seen a sport like this anywhere before I wonder??????
