State of the art training ground.
POMPEY'S long search for a new training complex appears to be over, The News can reveal.
The club is gearing up to move to new training facilities in Lee-on-the-Solent, including 10 full-size pitches, two mini pitches and a three-quarter size pitch.
The complex will be almost 10 times the size of the club's current, inadequate training site at Eastleigh.
The 35-acre site will include an 18,000sq ft building, which will house changing rooms, medical facilities, and a gym.
There will also be a three-quarter size indoor pitch for the club's academy, which will have its own separate building.
Two full-size pitches will be dedicated to community use and the indoor facilities will be available for schools in the Gosport area when the team aren't training.
Peter Storrie, Portsmouth FC chief executive, said: 'We're very excited about the new site which fits all the criteria for us to build a training facility any Premier League club would be proud of.
'I'd like to pay tribute to Gosport Borough Council which has been extremely supportive of our need to build such afacility and helping us find the site.
'The next stage is public consultation and we hope the community are as enthusiastic about the scheme as we are.'
Pompey will help fund visitor facilities for the Alver Valley Country Park, which will be built next to the site by the council. Gosport council leader Cllr Shaun Cully said: 'We are delighted that Portsmouth Football Club have chosen to build their new training ground in Gosport. They have in effect secured the future of the Alver Valley Country Park.'
Players would spend Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings training at the site in the Alver Valley, Lee-on-the-Solent, and the academy will use the facilities at other times.
Plans for the training ground will be submitted to the council within the next couple of weeks and if approved work is expected to begin by the late summer and end in time for the start of next season.
Fair play to the owner Sacha, he has proved once again he wants to take our club rapidly forward.
