Gorman explains why he quit

John Gorman has revealed that he resigned as manager of Northampton because he was under too much stress.
Gorman, who lost his wife to cancer in February, quit after four-and-a-half months in charge of the Cobblers with the team 18th in League One.

"I just can't be bothered with all the pressure of trying to win football games at the moment," said Gorman.

"After what I went through earlier this year you just wonder what it's all about, is it worth the pressure?"

The 57-year-old was in charge of Wycombe when his wife died and he added: "It's OK when you're winning, but when you're losing the pressure and everything that goes with it is too much and I just feel I don't need it all.

"It's my first Christmas without my wife and it's going to be a very hard time for my family.

"We just want to get it over with and look to next year."

Northampton have won just twice in their last 18 games and once at home all season.

He added: "I just couldn't seem to win the fans over, it was like I was fighting a losing battle.

"Expectations are so high. I tried to get them playing good football but it just wasn't meant to be."

But the former England assistant manager has not ruled out a return to football in the future.

"I'm not making any decisions at the moment, though, we'll have to see what comes up," said Gorman

"Football is like that, I was only out of work a few days before I got the Northampton job. So I'll just wait and see."
