Cole off to Cobblers

Northampton have signed Mitchell Cole on a month's loan from Southend.

The 19-year-old winger has not established himself in the Shrimpers side in the early part of their Championship campaign and is eager to play more regularly.

Southend boss Steve Tilson has reluctantly agreed to let him join The Cobblers for a month to keep him ticking over.

"We didn't want him to go but Mitchell feels he needs games at this moment in time which we can't guarantee," Tilson explained.

"He's going for a month and it will give him the opportunity to get some first team minutes under his belt.

"We will monitor the situation and hopefully he can come back ready to push for the first team again."
