Allardyce reign ends at Newcastle
Newcastle have ended Sam Allardyce's managerial reign after eight months.
The club, currently 11th in the Premier League, said the decision had been reached by "mutual agreement". Allardyce, who was in charge for 24 games, said: "I am disappointed to be leaving Newcastle but I wish the club all the best for the future." Former captain Alan Shearer has been strongly linked with the post but chairman Chris Mort said: "A new manager has not yet been appointed." First-team coach Nigel Pearson will take charge of the team for Saturday's Premier League meeting with Manchester United. Earlier on Wednesday, Allardyce had attended a news conference ahead of that game but gave no hint that his time at the club might be coming to an end. Indeed, the 53-year-old had spoken at length about his plans for the January transfer window. However, shortly afterwards, Newcastle announced news of his departure with a statement on their official website. Allardyce took over in May following Glenn Roeder's resignation after eight years in charge at Bolton. He was quickly working under a new regime at St James' Park after billionaire Mike Ashley completed his takeover, and long-standing chairman Freddy Shepherd left the club. The new manager signed nine players at a total investment of around £26m during the summer, with Joey Barton (£5.8m), David Rozehnal (£2.9m) and Alan Smith (£6m) among the arrivals. The Magpies began the season with a 2-0 win at the Reebok Stadium but he came under fire from fans unhappy with the team's style of play. The pressure built with a run of three straight league defeats over the festive period - although midfielder Nicky Butt was among those who urged the club to keep faith with Allardyce. His last game in charge was a 0-0 draw at Championship Stoke in the FA Cup third round on Sunday. He becomes the eighth Premier League managerial casualty this season, leaving with a record of won 8, drew 6, lost 10. Since Kevin Keegan left 11 years ago, six permanent managers have now come and gone at St James' Park. BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | Newcastle United | Allardyce reign ends at Newcastle |

Newcastle must be as mad as an hatter letting Sam Allardyce go. The real villain in all this is Alan Shearer, he's heard his name chanted on the terraces for weeks now, knowing that whilst the fans chant his name Allardyce has more pressure heaped on him. Yesterday they sack Sam and this morning Shearer says he's not interested in becoming the new manager just yet. For Newcastle fans sake the sooner they appoint Alan Shearer as manager the better, he'll be shyte but at least the fellow who replaces him won't have his shadow on his shoulders

Shearer hasn't got the bottle to take the job on.He could have stopped all of this by saying he has no badges to coach and he is contracted to the BBC until the end of the season but he liked the limelight and speculation and the fans and board showed their hand.
By giving his message today saying he won't be manager he has been shown to be bluffing all along. Love him now? (and i want to see a stable Newcastle even though i am a Sunderland supporter,i would rather have all 3 of the North East teams in the top flight so we can play each other and enjoy the rivalry) |

Newcastle deserve everything they get. 8 managers in 11 years tells its own story.
I've never been keen on Sam Allardyce but he would have been a sound manager for them had they given him time. Another decade of averageness beckons for Newcastle. |

He knew what was going on they have been chanting his name for manager and Sam out for months now, all he to do was say something along the lines of "it's nice they want me or sing my name but i'm not ready for the job yet" Not give an interview to the BBC last week saying he will go into management one day. I hope all other supporters don't tar all of the North East clubs with that same brush, there are no real Sunderland supporters asking for Keane to go even with our league standing, anything you see on boards along those lines are by armchair fans or glory hunters that latched onto the club when we got promotion. |
