Glenn Roeder has resigned as manager of Newcastle United, reports Five Live.
The Magpies have had a torrid time with injuries this season, finishing 13th in the Premiership and failing to shine in the cup competitions. Newcastle have not scored a league goal at St James' Park in over eight hours of playing time, which is their worst run since 1951. I feel bad for Roeder. He is one of life's underdogs, and I wanted to see it work out for him at Newcastle. The club remains in a better state than he found it. You cannot legislate for the players he lost.
If unlucky managers are bad managers, then Roeder must be a truly dire manager. More so when you consider the facts that he took on a West Ham team that Harry no longer wanted to manage, and was in charge when a debt-ridden Gillingham nearly crashed out of the league. But I don't think he is that bad a manager, and I think whichever club gets him next will be very fortunate. |
