Mansfield's 77-year stay in the Football League is over after Chester's draw with Stockport on Tuesday sent the Stags down to the Blue Square Premier.

The Stags are now four points behind third-bottom Dagenham & Redbridge with just one League Two game remaining.

Mansfield boss Paul Holland told his club's website: "I am totally distraught and as upset as anybody.

"We have not been good enough over the course of the season. We now have to come back up at the first attempt."

very sad to see them go out of the league, its a lways a good away day there. feel bad about sending them down by beating them 1-0.

i was hoping D&G or chester would go down as they bring no fans and both have poor gounds with no pubs near them

Very sad. And if you look at some of the teams who've gone down over the last few years ie York City, Poxford Utd , Cambridge Utd. and their still there. Worrying.

Agree with this. Sorry to see Mansfield go - they played some decent footie at GP by all accounts.

always sad to see a team drop out of the league but look at Hereford now came back better and stronger and are now in league one

our rivalism is as strong as ever but all joking apart I will miss our game next season It is sad to see what Haslam as done to Mansfield and the batchelor episode is sadder still
