The smaller clubs in the league are finding themselves in a catch 22 situation, to move up the league a club needs either a brilliant young manager, loads of cash and a decent following. If the teams in the lower league gets a good manager they struggle to keep hold of him and he'll move on to a bigger club, the same goes with any half decent player they have. Cash is a problem because the gap between the income TV brings in is enormous once you're out of the Premiership, you need at least £30 million or more to compete at the highest level. The fans tend to be attracted to the top teams, and will travel further afield to go watch top level games.

Small consolation - there are far worse teams in League Two - Brentford are probably one of them! |

Lincoln maybe one of the bigger teams Belly, but in leagues 1 and 2 a bloke who comes in with £1 million can make a big difference. Once you get into the Championship and more so the Premiership, that million quid won't even pay a players wages for the year. Until a club gets a wealthy benefactor they'll struggle to make an impact on the top 2 divisions ![]()

what im saying, is we should have had 900K for transfers, over the last 3 years, and none of it has been used, we have signed awful players on frees, Steve Torpey says it all! 900k could buy us some quality players, wether from league 1, or hidden gems from the Conference leagues, which is what Keith Alexander found. Steff Wright, the chairman is making promises he cannot keep, "Championship 2010" for example, we have been practically paralysed in the transfer market, and have signed players no1 wants from smaller clubs in our league, it seems quite clear that last season was Keith Alexanders work, only Schofields name as manager, and Schofield is too inexperienced to drag our backsides out of this mess, things are looking terribly bleak unless change happens soon, with a chairman screwing us over, and a inexperienced managerial partnership, things wont change. Bring back Keith Alexander, and lets get a chairman who is prepared to put his hand in his pocket, and help the club where it counts, in the transfer market, Steff Wright needs to go, and i feel that it wont be long before Schofield and Deehan are pushed either.....

Must say, things arent lookin so godd at the moment. But knowing Lincoln you will make the play-offs! I agree and disagree with some replies. Firstly, i wouldnt say Lincoln are the 3rd biggest club in league 2. For me, Stockport, Grimsby and Notts County are bigger clubs.. and the Shrews are going places, im telling you that for free. Although i wouldnt call Shrewsbury a big club just yet.
I agree with Belly about the 'gems in the conference'. Anyone who has seen Rochdale since January will see a small blonde midfielder called David Perkins. This lad is class, never gives up, strong in a challenge, and can run with the ball and has a good killer pass. He cost us sod all from Morecambe last january and is an absolute steal. Bit biased cos i am a dale fan but he is class.. Been rumours of a £300k from Preston but that mightve been specualtion. As for Lincoln, inexpereinced managers arent all bad, Incey and Roy keane are two good examples with keith Hill not far behind! |

I disagree with Grimsby, and Notts County are a "used to be" team, the advantage with Incey and Keano, is they used to be class players, and have the ability to motivate a team, half-time talks with lincoln, are probably more like a library than a team changing room, the players dont look like they want to play, and the 2 Jonnys dont seem to be doing anything about motivating them, especially defensivly, 9 goals conceeded in 2 games aint a motivated defence.....
