Coventry Anger at Wolves Management

COVENTRY CITY will press ahead with trying to sign Freddy Eastwood in the summer.

The Sky Blues were left seething this week when Wolverhampton Wanderers pulled the plug on a loan deal to bring the 24-year-old striker to the Ricoh Arena with an option to buy him for a figure between £1.5-£2 million at the end of the season.

And despite being "appalled" by the handling of the deal by Molineux chiefs, City will still attempt to buy the out-of-favour forward, along with Gary McSheffrey if Birmingham avoid relegation from the Premiership.

The one thing in their favour is the fact that Eastwood wants to come to Coventry after his £1.5 million move from Southend to Wanderers failed to take off this season.

"The player had agreed to sign, we had agreed a fee with the club, we agreed all the player's personal terms," said an angry Chris Coleman.

"We had been working on it for 10 days and suddenly they went back on it on Wednesday which is really a bomb shell for us.

"For them to pull out on the deal, and the reason they gave us - which I won't go into - is an appalling way to act.

"It is something that we would never do at Coventry and we are bitterly disappointed because everything was done and the player wanted to join us.

"He still wants to join us and for reasons which I can't go into, the club have gone back on what they had agreed on and have acted in an appalling manner and there is nothing we can do.

"The last 24 hours we have been chasing our tails trying to bring in other faces, which we haven't been successful, so I am afraid, it is not great news."

Coleman was reluctant to reveal the identity of the club involved , adding: "I could and I would like to to embarrass them.

"And they would be ambarrassed, but I can't.

"All I can say is he scored for his country on Wednesday night and that's as much as I will say.

"But they have acted in such a bad manner and it has left us feeling very bitter.

"I will find it very hard to deal with the people in question on any future deals if I am honest, because you don't work like that in football."

It is understood that Wolves stipulated in the agreement that Eastwood would not be allowed to play against them when the two sides meet on April 26.

It is understood that City initially refused but then relented in a bid to get the deal done.

That was formally agreed in writing but Wanderers then blocked the move completely.

It is believed they got cold feet, fearing a backlash from the fans, many of whom believe he has never had a fair crack of the whip at Molineux.

"I can't go into it in too much detail because if I did I would say things that I probably shouldn't say," said Coleman.

"All I can say is that in five years of being a manager this is the worst dealings I have ever experienced.

"The player has been fantastic and the manager was also very good, but the club itself has been appalling.

"The problem is when you get people in football at that level who are doing deals for players who don't really know about football - they may know about business - but unfortunately the people we have been dealing with don't know anything about anything.

"So when you are working with people like that, what chance have you got?

"It's all right for them because they are doing OK in the league.

"But whether you are having a good time or bad time, there is a way to act and the best way to act is the proper way."
