The Story from The Coventry Evening Telegraph
By Martin Smith and Andy Turner IAIN DOWIE has been sacked today as manager of Coventry City. The Coventry City boss, assistant manager Tim Flowers and Bob Dowie, chief scout, have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect. The Sky Blues lie 19th in the table, four points above the relegation zone, following the 1-0 defeat at Preston on Saturday - their fifth loss in six league games. The Coventry Telegraph understands that club chairman Ray Ranson was at the Ryton training ground. He broke the news to Dowie and Flowers, who has turned up for work as usual. None of the players were aware of the situation this morning. They were not told until they turned up for training. In a statement issued today, the football club said: "Frankie Bunn and John Harbin will take charge of first-team affairs for tomorrow night's game against Cardiff City at the Ricoh Arena. "Coventry City Football Club will not be making any further statement at this time." IAIN Dowie's tenure as Coventry City manager came to an abrupt end this morning. We take a look back over some of the highs and lows of his year in charge of the Sky Blues. February 19, 2007: Former Crystal Palace and Charlton manager Iain Dowie is unveiled as Micky Adams' replacement. Feburary 20, 2007: Dowie starts his reign at Coventry City with a promising 2-1 victory over Southampton at the Ricoh. Dele Adebola and Kevin Kyle both scored in the first half hour to earn the former Northern Ireland international his first three points as boss. by Warren Manger IAIN Dowie's tenure as Coventry City manager came to an abrupt end this morning. Dele Adebola and Kevin Kyle both scored in the first half hour to earn the former Northern Ireland international his first three points as boss. May 2007: After a bright start Dowie's Coventry team fade towards the end of the season, ultimately finishing 17th with just 15 wins and 56 points from their 46 games. July 5, 2007: Striker Leon Best becomes Iain Dowie's most expensive signing when he joins City from Southampton. The fee is set at £650,000 by tribunal - a decision which infuriated the south coast club. August 29, 2007: Dowie is linked with the vacant manager's post at Coventry's Midlands rivals Leicester City after Martin Allen is sacked. Coventry deny Leicester have made any approach and say any such offer would be 'firmly' rebuffed. The rumours resurfaced when Gary Megson left Leicester to become Bolton Wanderers manager on October 24. August 30, 2007: Dowie is named as Championship Manager of the Month for August after guiding City to the top of the table with seven points from their first three games. September 26, 2007: Arguably the high point of Dowie's time as Coventry City manager as the Sky Blues dump Manchester United's highly-paid prodigies out of the League Cup in the Third Round. Maltese striker Michael Misfud scored twice to earn the City a famous victory at Old Trafford. November 10, 2007: Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan vows to sue Iain Dowie for £350,000 which the Coventry City manager allegedly promised him as part of a peace settlement. Jordan claimed Dowie had lied to him, promising that he was quitting Palace in 2006 for family reasons and not to join Premiership strugglers Charlton Athletic. December 14, 2007: Coventry City are saved from bankruptcy by the SISU takeover just hours before they were due to go into administration. Throughout the summer and early months of the season speculation had rumbled on that Dowie would quit the Ricoh because he had not been given the transfer funds he was promised. January 5, 2008: More cup glory for City as they shock Blackburn Rovers with a 4-1 win at Ewood Park in the FA Cup Third Round. Michael Misfud bagged another brace, with Dele Adebola and Elliot Ward scoring the others. February 11, 2008: Iain Dowie is sacked as Coventry City manager after the club's 1-0 defeat away to Preston North-End. He has been in charge of Coventry for 357 days, overseeing 49 matches. Richard Money is early favourite for Coventry City job
By Warren Manger
WALSALL boss Richard Money has emerged as the early frontrunner to replace Iain Dowie as Coventry City boss. Bookmakers are keeping their cards close to their chest over who they think will be named as Dowie's successor. But leading highstreet bookies William Hill admitted that the Walsall manager is currently their top tip. The 52 year-old has built a formidable reputation as one of the most qualified manager outside the Premier League by guiding Walsall to promotion from League Two in his first season in charge last year. His success has continued this season and Walsall are currently on course for a play-off place, sitting fifth in League One after 31 games. Money was linked with the Coventry City job last year but was ultimately overlooked in favour of the more fashionable Dowie. This could be the perfect time for the former Liverpool centre-back to return to Coventry, where he enjoyed considerable success as the head of the club's youth programme. It would give him an early opportunity to link up again with highly-rated young defenders Daniel Fox and Scott Dann after selling them to Coventry during the January transfer window. Big names likely to join Money in the hat include former Blackburn Rover and Glasgow Rangers boss Grame Souness, a close friend of new Coventry chairman Ray Ranson, and recently departed Newcastle United manager Sam Allardyce. A spokesman for William Hill said the bookmaker would be adopting a 'watching brief' until it knew whether Coventry City had already tied up a deal to appoint Richard Money as the club's new manager. "We would certainly want to know that Richard Money hasn't already got the job before we considered opening a book on Iain Dowie's replacement," he said. "In these situations you don't know what has been going on behind close doors so we wouldn't want to go handing out money to people in the know." In the meantime Frankie Bunn and John Harbin will take charge for Coventry City's home match against Cardiff City tomorrow night. ![]() ![]()

It would seem to be true that Wallsall's team is now moving to Coventry BTrev1, maybe you'll have to buy a new coloured shirt.....
On the side it would seem to most of the City fans I've been in touch with that Renason already has someone lined up for the job, I also think Ranson has been lining up a new manager since he took over, Graham Souness is stiil in and around Coventry, his, named was mentioned a lot all the way through the takeover, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was presented to us over teh next weeks, not happy about the prospect, but wouldn't be surprised.
