Coventry are the latest team to be in talks with in-demand Dan Fox - as Colchester have admitted defeat in signing the left-back.

The Sky Blues have had a bid accepted for the Walsall defender, who has also been linked with Wolves and Leeds.

But Fox will definitely not be joining Colchester, who had an undisclosed bid, thought to be £350,000, accepted by Walsall earlier this month.

The news comes after the player met with Colchester manager Geraint Williams and chairman Robbie Cowling last week.

There's been a few clubs interested in him, so he must be a decent young player.

He could have missed a trick not joining Leeds. He is obviously looking at a bit of money short term instead of big money long term.

The Sky Blues, who had a transfer embargo lifted last week, look set to make Fox their first January signing after having a bid for the highly-rated left-back accepted by the League One club on Tuesday.

Dowie is also hopeful of tying up a deal for a goalkeeper as Andy Marshall is expected to be out until mid-February with back problems.

"We are getting close and have identified who we want and I would be very surprised if we haven't got one or two in by the weekend," said Dowie.

"We are waiting for a phone call and hopefully we can push the button on that."
