Robbo please to get Rhodes

Millers boss Mark Robins tells todays Advertiser his thoughts on Alex Rhodes, while Derek Holmes is set to leave the club.

26 year old striker / winger Alex Rhodes signed a ONE year deal with the club yesterday (not a 2 year deal originally stated) and gaffer Mark Robins gave his thoughts on the player to todays 'Tiser.

"Alex will add another string to our bow. We need pace out wide and he provides that in abundance and he can also play down the middle."

"He caused its problems in our league game at Bradford last season. He needs to improve his final delivery and we will work with him to get more consistency into his game." he said.

Meanwhile Robbo will be looking for a new target man given that Derek Holmes is set to leave the club by having his contract cancelled with the 29 year old wanting to move back to his native Scotland to be nearer family.

Holmes was the Millers joint top scorer last season, but didnt find the back of the next after his hat-trick at Lincoln in January and finished the season on the bench.

I believe he was at Brentford for a while as well. We had him on loan as well I think in the 06/07 season but he didn't really do much to impress.

He was really promising for a while and his goal against Bournemouth in the last game of the 93/94 season helped to secure our league one status. He was, however, injured the following season and he never recaptured his form.

how old was he then, he is only 26 now

the reason we have got him is becuase we have got no pace at all, this is one of the main reasons we had a poor season. but he did well in both games against us, so lets hope he does well

He was very young and had so much promise - he was badly injured in a game against Walsall and he was never the same player again - apparently he has lost quite a bit of his pace. I do hope it works out for him at Rotherham - no doubt he will come back and score at Griffin Park - ex players usually do.
