Leeds United striker Anthony Elding's contract talks with League One rivals Crewe Alexandra have broken down.

The two clubs had agreed a six-figure fee for the 26-year-old, who only moved to Elland Road in January from Stockport County.

But Elding has stated he wants to remain at Leeds to fight for his place.

Anthony Elding is determined to fight for his place at Leeds United after turning down a move to Crewe Alexandra.

Leeds accepted a bid from their League One rivals earlier this month, and Crewe confirmed personal terms had been agreed with the striker.

However, Elding rejected a switch to Gresty Road as he looks to convince Leeds boss Gary McAllister he is worth a spot in his Elland Road squad.

"I've had discussions with Crewe, but it wasn't right for me," Elding told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"Realistically, Leeds are the biggest club I'm ever going to play for, and I'm not going to give that up at the first opportunity or for the wrong reasons. I'd rather sit tight where I am.

"The easy option for me is to say that I'm not prepared to fight for my place, but I've got two years left on my contract at Leeds and they deserve more commitment than that.

"I'm happy to be here and my feeling is still the same as it was when Crewe first came in for me - I don't want to leave.

"It's been made pretty clear to me that I won't be involved next season, but I've got to think long and hard before I let this opportunity go."

Since joining Leeds in January from Stockport County, Elding has scored once in nine appearances, starting four times.
