Carson To Become A Record Breaker

Scott Carson will become an England record breaker tonight when he lines up for his country in the European Under-21 Championships clash with Serbia.
It will be the Liverpool goalkeeper's 29th cap at Under-21 level and will move him ahead of both Jamie Carragher and Gareth Barry, who both reached 28.

England know victory over Serbia in Holland, will guarantee them a place in the next phase of the competition and Carson is concentrating more on the result than on any individual glory he is set to achieve.

"I've always looked forward to this and my main objective of the season was to play here and hopefully bring back the trophy," he said.

"To get one cap was brilliant, I'm delighted to get this far. But I'm not really concentrating on the caps and things like that, I'm just concentrating on getting us as far as possible in the competition and hopefully go on to win it."

Carson also admits the successful season he has spent on loan with Charlton Athletic has helped prepare him for the tournament in Holland.

"I feel much better coming off a good season, I think I would be a bit more nervous coming here if I didn't have those games under my belt," he added.

The game with Serbia kicks off at 7.45pm.

Good luck to the lad, its a shame we've got Reina as Carson would be our number 1, which I'd prefer with him being English!
