Halifax Town on the verge of collapsing

Halifax Town are on the brink of liquidation after failing to get their rescue package agreed their creditors.

The club's administrator, Rob Sadler, has failed to reach an agreement with HM Revenue and Customs over their debts, BBC Radio Leeds reports.

The Shaymen are believed to have debts in the region of £2m.

They could now be relegated from Blue Square Premier and Blue Square North and have a slim chance of playing in the Unibond League next season.

If the Shaymen are relegated at least two divisions, as looks likely, it could mean reprieves for Altrincham who finished 21st - the highest of the four relegated clubs in the Blue Square Premier - and Hucknall Town, who finished 20th in Blue Square North.

Incredibly, it would be the third successive season that Altrincham had finished in the Conference National's relegation zone, but been reprieved because of other clubs' problems.

As mentioned before in these forums, Altrincham is my home town club and I have been to Wembley 3 times with them in their glory days in the 80s.
They narrowly failed to be elected into the old 4th division after winning the Alliance as it was then known approx 5 times each with Wigan in 10 years.

Look where Wigan are now!
What could have been.

Altrincham have not finished bottom for the last 3 seasons , but have finished top of the bottom four, and because of other clubs bad administration/bad luck have managed to be reprieved on 3 occasions.

Some would call this luck, some would say that Altrincham FC is run properly by a great board and manager and doesnt let itself get run down into administration at the expense of running the team.

And some would say that it's not always the club's fault that these things happen. There are a lot of clubs in difficulty presently. Too much money going to the top tier in the English game is another cause ...
