Lille v Man Utd Referee

I must admit as a qualified ref the ref got his decisions spot on!! It was a push which impeded Vididc from making a clearence of the ball and the free kick!! A free kick is as it sounds, a free kick on goal, you decide to take it quick and it hits a defender on his arse then you cant complain the 10 yard rule its 'your choice' its a free kick!! If it goes in goal its a goal. I say this as this question came up on my refs exam (yes we do have to take them) All the ref got wrong is that Scholes could have got yellow carded on several occasions and that he didnt walk many a frog/nigerian for dissent and wanting to walk off!! The dutch lad did a very very good job!! Best Ref ive seen in years!!

Better than Saturday's even after you convinced me to pen an e mail to the league saying how wonderful he was and how I'd like to have his babies?!?!

I think fifa need to sort it out, as a player you're told to play to the whistle but in tonights game there wasn't one. I'm glad united won tonight but its a shame that the refs decision and lille's reaction will over-shadow this!

The ref was correct!! if you watch he backtracks away from giggs game on, play ball, have it frogs! he didnt even have to backtrack. Im no Man Utd fan but I applaud quick and clincal thinking - Terry Henr y at Arsenal does it all time!

I'm not sayint the ref was incorrect, just that the ruling needs to be made clear to avoid scenes like tonight!

Its good for English football if all the teams progress through to the next round! We'll be winning it a sixth time anyway
