John McGinlay for me (who I hear you shout). Signed for us in the 80's, he was good friends with my dad and used to come round for dinner quite often, which as a 6/7 year old having one of your idols sat beside you having dinner is quite a thing

We got a new manager who decided John was rubbish, released him, he then went to Elgin (I think) then to Bolton Wanderers and also capped by Scotland.

What great judgement by that manger

best ever signing

Sheffield Wednesday's best ever signind was probably David Hirst from Barnsley, followed closely by John Sheridan from Forest, he had stagnated there after being a very promising player at Leeds.

We went through a really good period of picking players up that others thought were past their best, Lee Chapman, Chris Waddle and Trevor Francis spring to mind, they seem to have been rejuvenated when we got our hands on them, a lot to do with Big Ron I suspect, they're all held in high esteem with Owls fans to this day, that says a lot, another of Ron's influential buys was Carlton Palmer.

Gerrard isn't a signing, it's a product of the academy
