Rush Limbaugh is something different though. The most classless politics commentator around. Do you know him, California Bee?

Yes, he has run a syndicated radio show for many years which is the highest-rated talk-radio program in the United States. The democrats say he is the most influential radio host in the states. There are a stack of these guys trying to make it with radio talk shows but the most successful in terms of audience is Rush Limbaugh.
The democrats make more headway on TV for some reason but Limbaugh tried it and was a failure. Limbaugh calls himself an entertainer and he does cover a few non-political topics (sport, seasonal events, news items etc) too but his audience is predominantly conservatives. I don't think the Dems help themselves by giving him a high profile with their criticism and protests. Few of Limbaugh's audience are going to vote for Democrat anyway.
There have been lots of liberal radio talk shows too. Jim Hightower, Jerry Brown, Mario Cuomo and Alan Dershowitz are all prominent liberal political names. Michael Jackson has been a British liberal talk show host in Los Angeles since the late sixties. Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller, Fox Radio's Alan Colmes, and a host of others have enjoyed varying degrees of success but many more of any political persuasion have failed. Former Liberal comedian, author and actor Al Franken had a talk show for a short while before running for the senate in Minnesota in 2008. He squeaked by with a margin of 300 after two recounts and now sits in the senate.
Other than Limbaugh there are several well-known conservative radio pundits including stand-up comedian Dennis Miller, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Christian evangelist Hugh Hewitt and Jewish conservatives Michael Medved and Dennis Prager.
Limbaugh knows the business well and he is entertaining and popular with a big following. He talks with apparent authority and evinces a good-natured attitude while skewering his political targets. It's obvious that he enjoys winding up the Democrats. His enormous following (many call themselves Dittoheads) in some cases gets otherwise liberal-leaning radio stations to sign up for his show. He really gets up the nose of the democratic party faithful who in my view would be better off ignoring him altogether instead of spreading his notoriety wider.
I hardly ever listen to his programme or any other talk show. Since 1991, Limbaugh has had the most-listened-to radio talk show in the United States, with 14.25 million listeners a week as of March 2009.
