Has Simon Cowell ruined British Music ?

There was an article on the Virgin Media Home Page about Simon Cowell and whether he and his fellow producers have ruined the British Music industry with their brand of pop music.

From a personal point of view I would have to say yes. Virtually all the acts and bands that have come through the X Factor & Britain's got talent have vanished in to obscurity with the exception of a handfull. I can remember the 80's when British Artists & Bands ruled the known universe and could sell records anywhere. Now hardly any of our records sell abroad. Something needs to be done to sort out this manufactured crap before it's too late.

Although i don't listen to manufactured music i think Simon Cowell has made his money through finding something that the public wants. If people thought he was crap they wouldn't buy his artists music. I take my hat off to him, he's made his money legally, so fair play to the bloke

But it's not proper music. Not what I consider to be decent British Pop Music anyway. We need a new wave of good bands and artists to show what we can really do.

Fair play to him but talent shows rarely find real talent. Not the sort of talent that lasts. Leona Lewis could be the exception but we'll see. We seem to have lost our way musically over the last 15 -20 years. Time to start finding the true stars out there and put us back on the musical map.
