Israel V England

Steven Gerrard expects England to beat Israel, providing the players perform to their potential.

England can ill-afford another Euro 2008 qualifying defeat on Saturday when Steve McClaren's side take on Israel in Tel Aviv, live on Sky Sports 1.

The last two qualifiers have seen England held 0-0 at home by Macedonia before losing 2-0 in Croatia.

Though Gerrard does not want to subscribe to the view that the Israel game is a 'must-win' fixture, he is aware of the need to pick up three points.

The Liverpool midfielder feels the important factor ahead of the Israel match is to ensure the players are primed to deliver a big performance.

"I think it's difficult to say it's a must-win game," Gerrard told Sky Sports News.

"I think the important thing is go there and perform.

"If we perform the way we know we can, we know we'll win.

"We've been a bit disappointed with our results of late, although we have been performing quite well in parts of those games.

"We're looking forward to the weekend and it'll be nice if we can perform well and get three points."

How difficult is it to realise that Gerrard & Lampard cannot play in the same team unless England play a 3-5-2 formation? It's all well and good picking the best players available, but surely they have to be able to play in a team together first and foremost?

Me, I'd have Gerrard over Lampard any day of the week, I mean 50 shots a game for one goal from Lampard and not much else, compared to Gerrard's tackling, passing tracking etc no contest

Wish I could watch it but dont have Sky. Its a disgrace you cant watch games like this on terrestrial TV. BBC too busy spending money on programmes for gay and lesbian and immigrants rather than spending the money to get football. BBC Kiss my ample hairy tocus

Sky shouldn't be aloud to broadcast international games, they should be available to everyone!
Gerrard should be in the centre of midfield with hargreaves or even scholes? England don't have a makalele to sit behind fat frank so that he can play behind the strikers, so why sacrafice Gerrard on the right to accomodate him?
