Kewell out until 2007

Liverpool midfielder Harry Kewell does not expect to play again for at least another four months after under going foot and groin surgery.

Kewell, 28, has not played since June during World Cup duty with Australia, where he his now recovering.

Kewell told the Australian media: "We're looking past February. I'm just itching to get back into playing but it's going to be a while.

"It's been hard, seven weeks so far, and I'm looking forward to going home."

Kewell was diagnosed with septic arthritis, a bacterial infection in the joints of his left foot, and returned to Australia for specialist treatment last month.

Whilst there, the midfielder has undergone surgery on a persistent groin problem and is now awaiting the all-clear.

"My foot is a bit sore at the moment and my groin is a bit sore too," said Kewell.

"But the surgeons are very happy. I meet up with them again on Friday and if they give me the all-clear I'm back off to England."

Kewell, who joined Liverpool in 2003, is also anxious to help put some spark back into the Reds' Premiership campaign.

"I think we're playing well," said Kewell. "But we're just not finishing our chances.

"If you look at our past record we've always had a slow start to the season, but we always pick it up and we know where the back of the net is and it only takes one spark from any one of our great players to do that."

No, this is the greedy **************** that took us for every penny, and then his agent did the same. Justice has finallly prevailled though cos he's been useless at Liverpool. Maybe Liverpool fans believe we robbed them

Even the goldfish at Leeds were taking them for every penny - did you have a bill of 25,000 each week for hiring fish and plants for the offices?

You can't really blame Kewell for taking the money if they were prepared to offer it can you?

BTW - He was on telly yesterday here - he's had 4 operations on his right ankle, left foot and groin and reckons all his injuries are behind him.

He will be better back than ever in late feb

will liverpool sell him in jan or wait to see how plays when fit?

Harry has been a big flop since his move from leeds, i for one was really excited at the prospect of seeing him in a reds shirt. However he has not been able to generate any of the form he showed for leeds, he had a ok season last year but otherwise he has been poor or injured. I am really not that bothered now how long he is out for, it seems he only wants to play for australia now!... some dream move!!

I could wish it on quite a few players, they're not dying or anything. Also remember Kewell will be picking up his £70,000 a week wages whilst he's out. The people who i feel sorry for are players at clubs like Torquay and Macclesfield, on £500 a week who's career finish. They've nothing to falll back on and have to go get another job
