Gerrard misses French trip

Liverpool will be without inspirational captain Steven Gerrard for Wednesday's UEFA Champions League clash with Bordeaux.

The all-action midfielder picked up a hamstring injury during the draw with Blackburn on Saturday and the complaint failed to respond to treatment on Monday.

Gerrard has racked up 349 appearances for Liverpool, but the 26-year-old will not get the chance to make it 350 in France after Rafa Benitez decided not to take the England international with the rest of the squad.

Liverpool have a win and a draw to their name following the first two rounds in Group C, but they will have to overcome Bordeaux without their star man.

Gerrard will be missed, as it is important we get a good result tonight. Hopefully we'll get an away win but a draw would be good enough.

He's a brilliant player for Liverpool, but crap for England. Why?

Well i think we pulled of a great result last night, managing our first away victory of the season even without Gerrard. As for why is he so much better for liverpool than england, i think thats down to 2 reasons; firstly he gets played out of position for england having played everywhere and mainly as a holding midfielder for a long time. He is now on the right of midfield where is generally plays begrudgingly for liverpool and has performed better, but really he wants to be in the middle with a player like owen hargreeves. Secondly he is the captain of liverpool, he feels he can express himself as he sees fit during games. When he plays for england i think he feels less able to do this which is why i would of made him captain ahead of JT.

A top result for you last night PTTR, an away win in Europe is always hard to come by. Let's hope you win on Sunday

Cheers Beefy, yeah fingers crossed we can get one over on the mancs, gonna be a tough ask to take all 3 points from old trafford though! Good luck to your boys too, hopefully you can pull yourself out of the relegation zone quickly, you never know you might make a charge for the playoffs like palace did a couple of years ago when dowie took over!

You have a choice og going 11 points down on Man Utd or pulling it back to 5, its which the players want the most, there is no doubt that Liverpool have the players to beat Man utd so lets see what happens..

just hope that we score, before man utd against the run of play.
Liverpool will play on the counter in the first half, and will start to press in the second one. If sissoko plays well, we win...
