The Begining of England Away

I was seeing this girl in march 97 and Promised her 3 weeks away to a nice country as I was earning a fortune at the time and new I would be Taking Home 3 k. but the Sad but also the best thing happened to me we split up on the tuesday and we was due to go down the airport on the friday morning and just book a plane to somewhere nice.
So we split and I thought what can I do now? as I know the Bees Twins, and they mentioned they was going off to Poland to Follow England Away in A World cup qualifier This appealed to me as I had been watching England at home for years and allways wanted to see them Abroad.
Friday morning I drew 3 grand in cash out the Bank and went to Heathrow could not get a direct flight to Poland or to Berlin to Catch train met 4 of the Ugliest leeds fans i have seen at h/throw, they was catching flight to Frankfurt and then another flight to Berlin and then a train from the East side of berlin for 12 hours.
so I went for it was on the Beer all day managed to get flights okay and made the Train with about a minute spare got Train at midnight,Sat down went to bar on train and proceded to have a good drink and chat to people on the Carriage. 3 off the big fat leeds hoodlums vanished and left there mate asleep in corner, I was chatting to this lovely German bird who was a Teacher in poland, 4 AM train pulled up in Warsaw half way to Katowice where the game was been played,I looked out my window and saw a whole Platform of the biggest ugliest Thugs I have ever seen Very Scary indeed They all piled on, and i started whispering to the german bird,THE Poles who were on the train allready grassed me up and said I was English to there new found mates they first picked on Matey who was asleep and Nicked his bag and Passport and threw them out the window,Then the Biggest of them went up to me and lifted me off the floor with 1 hand just shouting English pig you die you english pig I was ****ting it big time I can tell you that,Luck was on my side and my German friend started shouting at them and another old man who was Press started shouting at them Iwas told to sit down and not look at any of them apart from her,I duly obliged.
At last the train arrived at 9am at Katowice I was in 1 piece apart from my English pride took a bit off a battering. Got off train and there was 500 Poles waiting outside the Entrance of the station just waiting for the English or for there own rivals from Warsaw I shot off as quickly as possible and spotted a couple of English lads in there Burberry hats and asked what has been going on and where are all the English They Directed me to the Hotel Katowice got in there and booked a room and there was around 400 lads and a few lasses there from England,The place was Buzzing with stories of what had been happening the previous night with the locals and the OB (OLD BILL).The under 21 s had gone right off with 4 england in ob custody. I saw a few Familiar Faces from west Ham that I knew and hooked up with them for a while then on que everyone left the Hotel and marched up to the town 1 High street and 1 pub at bottom of street,we stopped at the pub and drank a beer or 5 there was Plenty of riot ob outside the pub gagging to use there rather long Truncheons,I went outside to get a spot of fresh air and was talking to these Oldham lads who were playing up and calling the ob all sorts so I left them wisely and went back inside 30 secs later The ob steamed into the lads outside the pub and beat T **** out of anyone and locked the pub doors to stop lads getting out,2 of the Oldham was nicked,got out off pub about 5 mins later and went to look for Match tickets was walking down the rd asking lads and bumped into Hudds fan who knew this place where I could get tickets,i went in cab with him and we pulled up at this b&b and the man at the door sold me 50 Match tickets at £4 each the official england members club was charging £16 each so got Tickets and went back to Hotel everyone was back in the hotel now and the big match atmosphere was well and truly on now I told a few England fans that i had tickets and will accept Sterling,lottes,or kraut money but I will not give any form of change as I knew there would be a mad rush for them I made a fortune but sold at face value but made a £150 by not giving change. The atmosphere now at 5 pm was mad and the English lads Barricaded the main front doors of the hotel and started pelting the ob with every missle they could get, que the ob was not happy with this, so I saw my Exit out the side door to a pizza place next door and went there for a pizza 30 mins later I got back to a deserted hotel apart from 1 very bruised and drunk Burnley fan who I helped get up and get in cab to the game drove past the England Fans on route getting battered by the ob badly we got to ground and got started on by every pole around us but managed to get in the ground.

The Game was won 2-0 Shearer and sherringham. but I missed most of the game due to watching A great Fight between the poles fighting amongst each other the ob just let it happen and it was like watching a laurel n hardy film Brilliant veiwing in the safe England end. Lots more Happened on this trip which I am sure I will follow up on when my wrist stops aching from all this typing.
