Nottingham Forest became the second English club to retain the European Cup. They also became the first club to play in three consecutive League Cup finals.

Arsenal became the first club since 1888 to play in three consecutive FA Cup finals.

West Ham United won the FA Cup becoming the third second level club to do so since 1973 and 1976. This was the third all-London FA Cup final.
