1981 FA Cup Final Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City
Tottenham Hotspur 1 Manchester City 1
Replay Tottenham Hotspur 3 Manchester City 2 The 100th Cup Final to be contested went to a replay with both matches being played at Wembley. Manchester City's Tommy Hutchison managed to score at both ends to ensure a rematch. The second game was a more explosive affair with early goals from Ricardo Villa and Steve Mackenzie making honours even. A penalty put City ahead but Spurs equalised through Garth Crooks. The winner is considered one of the finest FA Cup goals ever, with Ricky Villa dribbling through the City defence to score. 1981-Tottenham-Hotspur-c3f621a7-2de2-4b89-9c7e-d304b4a1319d.jpg First game teams TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR: GK 1 Milija Aleksic RB 2 Chris Hughton LB 3 Paul Miller CB 4 Graham Roberts CB 5 Steve Perryman (c) CM 6 Ricardo Villa 68' CM 7 Osvaldo Ardiles CF 8 Steve Archibald LM 9 Tony Galvin CM 10 Glenn Hoddle CF 11 Garth Crooks Substitute: MF 12 Garry Brooke 68' Manager: Keith Burkinshaw MANCHESTER CITY: GK 1 Joe Corrigan RB 2 Ray Ranson LB 3 Bobby McDonald CM 4 Nicky Reid CB 5 Paul Power (c) CM 6 Tommy Caton RM 7 Dave Bennett CM 8 Gerry Gow CF 9 Steve MacKenzie LM 10 Tommy Hutchison 82' CF 11 Kevin Reeves Substitute: MF 12 Tony Henry 82' Manager: John Bond Replay TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR: GK 1 Milija Aleksic RB 2 Chris Hughton LB 3 Paul Miller CB 4 Graham Roberts CB 5 Steve Perryman (c) CM 6 Ricardo Villa RM 7 Osvaldo Ardiles 75' CF 8 Steve Archibald LM 9 Tony Galvin CM 10 Glenn Hoddle CF 11 Garth Crooks Substitute: MF 12 Garry Brooke 75' Manager: Keith Burkinshaw MANCHESTER CITY: GK 1 Joe Corrigan RB 2 Ray Ranson LB 3 Bobby McDonald 79' CM 4 Nicky Reid CB 5 Paul Power (c) CB 6 Tommy Caton RM 7 Dave Bennett CM 8 Gerry Gow CF 9 Steve MacKenzie LM 10 Tommy Hutchison CF 11 Kevin Reeves Substitute: MF 12 Dennis Tueart 79' Manager: John Bond Replay Highlights |

I believe the Man City team had some of the best crop of youngsters that had been seen to that date. A remnant of Malcolm Alison's days.
