Derby target Jones
Promotion chasing Derby County are closing in on the signing of Manchester United youngster David Jones.
Rams chairman Peter Gadsby revealed on Tuesday that The Championship's fifth-placed side were hopeful of making a 'tremendous signing', and it appears as though Jones is the man in question with the midfielder close to agreeing a move to Pride Park.
Derby are believed to have arranged a deal which will see the 23-year-old move to the club on loan before making a seven-figure permanent transfer when the transfer window opens in January.
Rams boss Billy Davies is well aware of Jones' ability having brought him to former club Preston on loan last season - with the midfielder also spending time at NEC Nijmegen in De Eredivisie - and the Scot is now on the brink of reuniting with the player.
"David is a player I have admired for a long time and he did a wonderful job for me at Preston," Davies told the Derby Evening Telegraph.
"He is a talented young player.
"He has great ability and vision and can create and score goals."
The Red Devils youngster did not return to Holland over the summer to focus on his career at Old Trafford, but after making two appearances in the Carling Cup he now looks set to a move to the Championship outfit.
