Peter Taylor Sacked

Crystal Palace boss Taylor sacked

Taylor's side had only collected two victories this season
Crystal Palace have sacked manager Peter Taylor.
A brief statement on the club website announced that his contract had been terminated with immediate effect.

The Championship side have taken 10 points from their first 10 games of the season but have only won one of their last 10 league and cup outings.

Taylor had been in charge at Selhurst Park since the summer of 2006, having ended a four-year spell at Hull to take over at Palace.

606: DEBATE
It's a shame, but he certainly didn't live up to the standard expected by Simon Jordan

As recently as June, Eagles chairman Simon Jordan had insisted to BBC Sport that he was happy with Taylor - and had made the right decision to keep faith with him, despite a poor run of results last season.

Since 2004, Taylor had combined club management with his second spell of coaching England's Under-21 side but relinquished the international role in January 2007 to concentrate on his club duties.

As well as Palace and Hull, he also managed Southend, Dover Athletic, Gillingham, Leicester and Brighton.

He also had a one-match spell as caretaker manager of the full England team in November 2000.

That match, a 1-0 defeat by Italy, was the first occasion when midfielder David Beckham was handed the captain's armband.

No chance - two very big egos in the same room together.

I doubt Martin Allen and Simon Jordan would last more than a week together to be honest.

Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has given a strong hint he will move for Neil Warnock to replace Peter Taylor as manager at Selhurst Park.

Taylor was sacked on Monday after a disappointing start to the season to end his 16 months tenure at the club.

Saturday's 1-1 draw with Hull proved the last straw for Jordan who decided to bring down the axe on Taylor.

Warnock is the heavy favourite to succeed Taylor and Jordan admits the former Sheffield United chief is a leading candidate for the role.

Need a change
"Peter was given every chance to turn the situation around, but it hasn't happened," Jordan told the Daily Mail.

"I like Peter but we need a change. I don't want to waste another season.

"We need an injection of something and someone like Neil Warnock will give us that.

"He is a winner and I am a winner.'
