Sean St Ledger scored the only goal as Preston beat Coventry to move out of the bottom three in the Championship.
The home team went close through Darren Carter, who crossed for St Ledger to head home at the far post.
North End keeper Andy Lonergan saved a 25-yard strike from Isaac Osbourne before Coventry's Dimi Konstantopoulos denied Chris Brown and Simon Whaley.
Lonergan made second-half saves from Leon Best and Michael Mifsud, while St Ledger headed at Konstantopoulos.
A fairly dour game by all accounts and not an advert for the beautiful game, once more Coventry's front men are reported to have had dozens of chances and not even hit the target which has been a big part of our problem this year. For all the noise our front men make about not getting games they never seem to justify their selection when given the chance.
