Fresh shame for Former Coventry City star Craig Bellamy

FORMER Coventry City star and renowned bad boy Craig Bellamy faces fresh shame after it was claimed he attacked a charity worker in Africa, according to thesun.co.uk

Shocked witnesses said the striker went into a rage after losing money in a casino following an all-day drinking session.

They claimed West Ham and Wales star Bellamy, who is in war-torn Sierra Leone to promote his football foundation, grabbed the charity worker in a headlock and wrestled him to the floor.

Eventually bouncers jumped on him and dragged him out through a rear exit before dumping him in a car park.

The incident happened in the country’s capital, Freetown, in the early hours of Saturday after Bellamy and his two former SAS bodyguards went for drinks at the Lagonda Casino.

One witness said: “Bellamy had two minders with him but within 20 minutes of his arrival there was trouble.

“He was playing on a roulette table when something seemed to upset him. He was shouting and squaring up to people at the table.

“A few seconds later he jumped on one guy and started wrestling with him on the floor.

“The guy involved was an Englishman who is in Sierra Leone to help raise money for a charity that works with children orphaned by the civil war.

“Bellamy’s eyes were glazed over and he was in a rage. There were casino chips flying in the air and all hell broke loose. It took the local bouncers several minutes to drag Bellamy out of the club and all the time he was shouting and screaming abuse at everyone.

“This just isn’t the way people behave out here. There are only a couple of places in Freetown where westerners can drink.

“The casino is popular with British consulate staff as well as workers from the non governmental organisations and charities that operate in Sierra Leone.”

The incident is likely to cause Bellamy serious problems because it threatens to derail his plans to set up a football academy there.

The witness added: “There were some important people there that night and they couldn’t believe what was happening.

“It is honourable that football stars want to give something back to the game but they cannot behave like this.”

Last night Bellamy’s agent denied the accusations but refused to comment further.

David Beckham visited Sierra Leone earlier this year – and didn’t end up having a fight.

England and LA Galaxy ace Becks, 33, was in the country fulfilling his new role as a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador.
