A good day out at the Richo

Well fellow chatters as the 2007/2008 season draws to a close, we all enjoyed a warm almost early summer day greeting for the faithful at the Richo yesterday. The chance to meet once again with Cov Bee albeit briefly and I do apologies I think everyone was running late yesterday.

However, the Skyblues did miss their chance to gain safety in a very edgy game which I think I can say Coventry controlled for the most part by limiting Wolves options, if Steve Dann could have avoided one tackle Wolves may not have scored. For once I have to say that Coventry look like they played as a team particularly between defence and midfield which although scrapy at times looked quite solid and organised.

Several second half chances could have given Coventry victory, Mifsud two, Doyle, Best and Tabb all had chances but, this failure to convert has been the core reason I feel for our slide down the league.

With a team that I estimate as having an average age of about 23 I think is starting to show the route this new management team at Coventry are going to go. Now don't hold me to this but I don't see big named signing at Coventry next year, what I think will or is happening is the building of a team of young players, a squad of young players whom they will graft into a team that may, just may, hold together for some years providing a team understanding that maybe just doesn't happen when you buy a team...

One position that really does need filling is that of striker, although I moaned and shouted about Best's inablility to hold the ball, prevent players coming around him, his constant offsides and most of all his lack insight and pace. He did try harder in the second half but, he's just not good enough in this league at the moment.

Hopefully the +8 goal differance that Coventry have over Southampton and the fact that they play West Brom on Monday night and Shffield United away next Saturday should see Coventry safe, so fingers crossed.

I shall be sitting up at five'clock in the morning with Coventry & Warwickshire Radio playing on my laptop in the state Oregon on the west coast of America sweating over relagation, it will be a long night I fear and a slow Saturday.....

That's enough I think don't you ................................

I think you're safe b/c, Southampton are the side that'll go down. Coventry fans must be expecting a much better season next season, you've been really disappointing this year.

Well would you have believed it in the Baggies held at home by Southampton, also they had to claw their way back to get a draw.....arse!!!......

Saying that Coventry really only have them selves to blame for their position all the money worries and changes of management that have happened this year, did nothing to aid the team spirit.

Coventry & Blackpool are at 25/1 to be relegated on Saturday which is quite long odds really..But saying that in this league anything can happen as we've seen all the way through this season. It was only in December that the then Coventry manager Iain Dowie stated that fifty points would be a good safety margin, now we see Southampton on fifty one points, only eighteen points off a playoff place but the relegation zone, a very tough but good league.

I also heard at the weekend that the Chamionship is the fourth best attended league in Europe after the Premeirship, German league and La Lega in Spain.

Even down the last game of the season and almost nothing is completley resolved which is how a league should be really, ten teams still with a chance of promotion or playoff places, alas five teams with the worry of relegation so over half the league teams in this competion still have something to play for.

I for one will not be going to bed on Saturday night I'm on the West Coast of America and the city game does not kick off until 5am here so I'll Coventry & Warwickshire radio on through the Coventry web site and sweat my way to the end of the season..
