Operation Premiership wound up

Sky Blue Saturday: Operation Premiership wound up

OPERATION Premiership was finally wound up this week after two highly successful years of enormous under-achievement.

Former managing director Paul Fletcher made an emotional return to the club to administer a lethal injection to the ill-advised project, which will now be turned into carcinogenic food additives for use in the primary school catering sector.

Rather than mull on the scheme's many failures, new City owners SISU have acted decisively by instigating a brand new project to take its place.

Operation Championship aims to 'revitalise, rejuvenate and re-energise' the club, according to chairman Ray Ranson.

And Ranson made some bold pledges when unveiling the new scheme.

He said: "Operation Championship is, I firmly believe, the way forward for this club.

"In such circumstances you might expect me to call on our fans, stakeholders and business partners to get behind this new project 100 per cent.

"Instead I'm calling on a mere 90 per cent support rate. If that can be achieved, I will personally take full control of Operation Championship.

"And if I get that 90 per cent support, I can promise upwards of £20 million to be spent on the many, many important, if somewhat invisible to the naked eye, things this club needs going forward."

Asked whether this meant cash would be available for new players, Ranson replied that 'this is a matter for Chris Coleman because I am not an interfering chairman'.

When Coleman was asked whether this meant cash would be available for new players, he replied that 'this is a matter for Ray Ranson who, because he is not an interfering chairman, I never get to see from week to week'.

Whatever the fine details of the new scheme may be, Ranson said he was confident of its ultimate success.

"We have a Premiership ground here at the Ricoh, a Premiership ground half-filled with Championship attendances watching Championship football.

"Well, just about Championship football.

"But if we can all move forward in a unified fashion, I am of the opinion that we can enjoy further Championship football next season and beyond.

"So if we stick together, we can continue to experience a level of football that we have all grown accustomed to, and just about maybe possibly deserve.

"Probably."
