Chester City are aiming to sign former Swansea City midfielder Roberto Martinez.
The experienced Spaniard was not offered a new contract by The Swans after the club's defeat in the League One play-off final last season.
He is being courted by several clubs and watched Chester's pre-season friendly against Blackpool earlier this week.
City boss Mark Wright has now offered the 33-year-old a contract and is hoping Martinez will accept the drop down to League Two level.
"Roberto is a quality player and would be a tremendous asset to this club if we could sign him," Wright told The Daily Post.
"We have made what I think is an attractive, revised offer to Roberto and hopefully he will agree to join us.
"I am aware that there are other clubs interested in signing him, but with a player of his quality, it is only natural that he will attract a lot of interest."
i hope they do sign him as he is one hell of a player and both my daughter and myself think the world of him a true gent and has spent many an hour chatting with us too about the game over here and over in spain.
i recon we were stupid in letting him go his workmanship is a1.
