Cheltenham set to unveil Allen

Cheltenham are set to unveil Martin Allen as the replacement for Keith Downing.

It looks as though after months of been mentioned for every vacant managers job available on this site, he's finally back in football

I wish him all the very best - his stock seems to have slipped but now he has another opportunity to hopefully prove himself - remember that he turned some very average players at Brentford into formidable opposition. He also made some howlers e.g. letting Stephen Hunt leave for Reading as he didn't rate him.

League One strugglers Cheltenham Town have appointed Martin Allen as their new manager at Whaddon Road.

The 43-year-old who takes over from Keith Downing has been out of the game since leaving Leicester City in August 2007 after three months in charge.

He's working his magic so far - just seen the highlights from Saturday's game where Cheltenham beat Colchester 4-3 - Hayles scoring the winner in added on time.
