Paul Reid is hoping to come to an agreement to terminate his deal at Barnsley and has reiterated his desire to rejoin hometown club Carlisle.
Reid spent the latter stages of last season on loan with the Blues, where he started his career, after falling out of favour at Oakwell.
Tykes boss Simon Davey has placed Reid, who has a year left on his existing deal, on the transfer list and the 26-year-old is now desperate to return to Brunton Park.
"I worked really hard to get into the Championship with Barnsley and, if I was dropping out of it, I would only join a team I believe has every chance of getting into the Championship - and Carlisle fits the bill," Reid told the Carlisle News & Star.
"I think me and Barnsley could come to an agreement and terminate my contract by mutual consent but I can't do that until there is an offer from another club I'm interested in.
"I don't think Barnsley are going to do anything until there is an offer for me. I can't go to ask to be released until I know a club is going to make me an offer. It's very much a case of waiting for clubs to come up with offers. I've had offers but they weren't what I wanted."
