Newcastle may move for Morrison

Newcastle United manager Glenn Roeder is running the rule over Cambridge United defender Michael Morrison.

Morrison, 18, has been training with the Premiership club and is due to take part in a trial game this weekend.

"I will know after that if they want to take it further. If not, he's been asked to go to another Premiership club for them to look at him," boss Rob Newman told the U's website.

Morrison has previously spent time training at both Everton and Preston.

Cambridge United have signed goalkeeper Paul Crichton from Gillingham.
The veteran shotstopper, 37, has joined the Abbey Stadium outfit on a player-coaching deal.

Crichton was with the U's on trial last pre-season before attracting the attentions of the Gills but only made one appearance last season.

U's boss Rob Newman told the club's website: "He will be another experienced player in the dressing room and that's beneficial to the squad."
