Trollope demands more
Bristol Rovers boss Paul Trollope has told his underperforming squad that they need to improve if they want to earn new contracts in the summer.
Having been on a decent run through till the start of February, Rovers have seen a significant dip in form of late as they failed to win any of their last six league games.
Now 16th in League Two, the play-offs look to have eluded them this season, but Trollope has warned his players that they cannot take their foot off the gas if they want to remain at the club.
"For some players, now until the end of the season, every game is a cup final as they try to stand out and earn themselves a new deal," he told the club's official website.
"There are contract issues from the young professionals through to the senior pros and players have got to show that they can be part of it next year.
"We have already started assessing the progress we need to make next season and, without naming names, we have started talking to one or two.
"It is an ongoing thing and, to be honest, had we continued our good run and found ourselves up and around the play-offs, this may well have been done by now.
"But we have shown deficiencies that have worried us and that must be addressed."
